As I expected, the event was fully booked minutes after I sent out the announcement to hundreds of people in the city. Do join the waiting list so that if someone drops out, you may be allocated the free slot.
Dear future DJ :),
I am about to officially launch my introductory DJ workshops and to make sure that the program is solid, I am offering a FREE class at Club UN on Wednesday 11th of May 2011 at 6:00PM.
The objective of this “dress rehearsal” is not only for me to test the material but to also get feedback from students (you and four others) on what to improve.
You’re an adult so you know that there must be a catch somewhere, right? Well,
not only will I ask you for your brutally honest feedback but I will also
photograph the event and you “in-action” behind the turntables. The photos and
testimonials will be used as promotional material for paid-workshops that will
be offered to the general public.
Don’t worry, if you are camera shy and if you are a private-kind-of-person the
photos will be taken with your privacy in mind (from the back for instance) and
your name will be replaced with a cool DJ name that we will brainstorm together!
Sing-up fast! You know that these slots will fly out fast! But please make sure
that you can make it. Don’t book your slot only to cancel at the last minute as
you will have deprived another potential workshop participant of a very cool
opportunity!
See you there!

Where?

rated among the best in Montreal. U.N is located at 390 Notre-Dame Ouest (entrance
Sainte-Helene).
Fees
Your contribution to participate to a DEX 101 is usually $80 for a class of 5
people or $50 for a class of 8 people. But since this is a preparatory event,
your fee will be $0! Yup, gratis!
The only thing I ask in return is for an honest review, a
testimonial and a photo of you behind the turntables to be used as future
promotional material.
How to enroll
Each workshop is limited to a maximum of five (5) or eight (8) participants to
allow for an intimate setting and a chance for everyone to have more than enough times on
the decks. Spots are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
What you need to attend
Nothing! We will provide you with access to all of the DJ gear including
accessories such as headphones.
We do however encourage an open mind and a clear understanding that while the
basics will be explained and shown to you, it’s impossible for you to learn how
to DJ in two hours without prior training.
“JaBig is a wonderful teacher and friend. A wild enthusiast about all sorts of music (although a house DJ himself, he taught me how to spin hiphop) JaBig is the ideal mix of patience and knowledge to help young, potential DJ’s realize their dreams.
Whether you wish to learn on CD players, turntables, or Traktor; whether you want to get into House, hiphop, or Funk & Soul; whether you want to spin for fun or spin professionally, trust me, JaBig’s your man.
Not only did he help me spin in clubs all over Montreal, but even now, three years after moving out of the city, I still rely on the skills JaBig taught me for the gigs I have today.
